NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University will host the 34th annual Chris Roper Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday, April 30 at the Robert W. Wilson Recreation Complex. Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund two scholarships at Northwestern State, awarded each year to students majoring in health and human performance.
The tournament is held annually to honor Roper, a native of Camden, Ark., who was killed in a car accident during Christmas break in 1982. Roper was a senior and the top golfer on the 1981 Demon Squad. He was a member of the Trans-American All-Conference team, placing ninth at the league tournament.
The tournament will begin at noon Saturday, April 30, following an 11 a.m. lunch. The four-man scramble will award prizes for first, second and third places and closest to the hold, as well a door prizes. Entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per team, which include the cost of carts, lunch, beverages and green fees. Tee sponsorships are $50, $250 and $500 levels. Mulligans can be purchased beforehand for $2 each.
