NATCHITOCHES - Kayla Wingfield of Opelousas and Eddie Higginbotham of Jennings were selected as queen and king of the 2009 Homecoming Honor Court at Northwestern State University.
Wingfield and Higginbotham are part of a 20-member honor court which will participate in activities during Homecoming Week at NSU and will be presented at halftime of the Homecoming game between NSU and Texas State on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The court also includes: Danielle Antoon of Natchitoches, Aly Breaux of Sulphur, Kacey Buckner of Alexandria, Megan Cullen of Brusly, Amy Dodson of Ragley, Jannah Gray of Many, Kaleigh McCord of Baton Rouge, Shanice Major of Lake Charles and Whitney Mixon of Hammond.
Also named to the court were: Cody Bourque of Splendora, Texas, Nicholas Courville of Basile, Vanner Erikson of Loreauville, Jeremy Evans of Longview, Texas, Eric Howard and Ronnie Washington Jr. of Alexandria, Justin Thompson of Shreveport, Diante Turner of Natchitoches and Brandon Wheatley of Lafayette.
Wingfield is the daughter of Rena Wingfield. She is a senior scientific inquiry major. Wingfield is the 2009-10 Student Government Association president. A Dean’s List student, she is a member of Blue Key, Mu Epsilon Delta, Eta Sigma Phi, the NAACP and Circle K International.
Antoon is a junior hospitality management and tourism major and the daughter of Johnny and Merle Antoon. She is president of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and has been named as the chapter’s outstanding member. Antoon was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress. She was head of the Student Activity Board Lagniappe Committee.
Breaux is a junior elementary education major. She is the daughter of Dennis and Amelia Fontenot and Alfred Breaux. A member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, she was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress. Breaux is an FYI facilitator and Greek Ambassador. She is a Dean’s List student.
Buckner is the daughter of Ray and Debbie Buckner. She is a junior biology major. A Dean’s List students, she is executive vice president of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and vice president of the Student Activities Board. Buckner is a member of Purple Jackets, Demon Volunteers in Progress, Alpha Lambda Delta and Beta Beta Beta Honor Societies.
Cullen is a junior business administration major and the daughter of Paul and Celeste Cullen. An honor roll student, Cullen is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and president of the Panhellenic Council. She was a Student Government Association senator and a member of Business Professionals of America. Cullen was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress.
Dodson is a junior elementary education major. She is the daughter of Matthew “Brian” Dodson. A member of the NSU cheerleading squad for three years, she has been the group’s captain for two years. Dodson is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and was pledge class president. She is active in the Student Activities Board and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. Dodson has been a member of Demon Volunteers in Progress.
Gray is the daughter of Janet Gray and the late Pete Gray. A member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, she was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and was named Outstanding Connector. Gray is a member of Demon Volunteers Progress and is an FYI facilitator. She is a member of Rho Lambda and Business Professionals of America. Gray has been a President’s List student.
McCord is the daughter of Tracy and Karen McCord. A member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, she was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress. McCord is president of the NSU chapter of Business Professionals of America and a member of the Order of Omega. She was an NSU Ambassador, member of the Pom Pon Line and Catholic Student Organization.
Major is a senior liberal arts major in the Louisiana Scholars’ College. She is the daughter of Rogers and Constance Major. A member of the NSU Select Choir, she serves as Student Government Association treasurer. Major is also a member of the NAACP and was third runner up in the Miss Northwestern Lady of the Bracelet Pageant. She is a Dean’s List student.
Mixon is the daughter of Charlene and Dennis Mixon. She is a junior psychology major. Mixon is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority where she serves as an officer. She is a member of the Sociology Club and the Psychology Club. Mixon is an FYI Facilitator, freshman ambassador and is a volunteer for D.O.V.E.S. She was a contestant in the Miss Louisiana Pageant.
Higginbotham is the son of Eddie and Ella Higginbotham. He is a senior health and exercise major. Higginbotham is president of Theta Chi Fraternity and the Student Activities Board. He was a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress. Higginbotham is an Interfraternity Council delegate, Greek Ambassador and a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. He is a President’s List student.
Bourque is the son of Betty Bourque and is a senior journalism major. He served as Student Government Association president and general manager of KNWD-FM, the campus radio station. Bourque is a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity where he was Active of the Year. He is a Dean’s List student and was a member of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band.
Courville is the son of Steve and Georgie Courville. He is a senior accounting major. Courville is president of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Order of Omega. He was also a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff and Demon Volunteers in Progress. He was the 2009 Greek Man of the Year and a member of the 2008 Homecoming Honor Court.
Erikson is a junior journalism major with a concentration in public relations. He is the son of Russ Erikson and Tammy Boudoin and Yvette Guilbeau and Frank Castille. Erikson is a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was also a member of the Freshman Connection orientation staff, Demon Volunteers in Progress and was a Greek Ambassador.
Evans is the son of Tryson and Barbara Evans. He is a senior biology major. Evans is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and president of the National Pan Hellenic Council. Evans is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band. An honor roll student, he has been a member of Freshman Connection orientation staff, an FYI Facilitator, a Greek Ambassador and a member of the NAACP.
Howard is a senior business administration major. He is the son of Georgia Williams. Howard is a Dean’s List student. He is a member of the Student Activity Board’s Lagniappe Committee, Students in Free Enterprise and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. Howard is president of Helping Hands and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.
Thompson is the son of Earlene and James Thompson. He is a senior criminal justice major. Thompson is president of Kappa Alpha Psi and vice president of the National Pan Hellenic Council. He is a Student Government Association senior class senator and a member of the Future Black Law Students Association.
Turner is a senior business administration major. He is the son of Broderick and Dana Hooper. Turner is a President’s List student and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He is also active on the Student Activities Board and is a member of the NAACP, Demon Volunteers in Progress, Helping Hands and Circle K International.
Washington is a junior business administration major. He is the son of Ronnie Washington Sr. and Cynthia L. Washington. A Dean’s List student, he is president of the NSU chapter of the NAACP and a Student Ambassador. He is a committee head in the Student Activities Board and has been a member Freshman Connection orientation staff and a member of Students in Free Enterprise.
Wheatley is a senior pre-medicine/biology major. He is the son of Angela Navarre. Wheatley is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, the Spanish Club and Circle K International where he serves as vice president. He is also a member of Helping Hands, the Vet Tech Club and the NAACP. Wheatley has been a Greek Ambassador and a member of Demon Volunteers in Progress. He has been a Dean’s List student.
