NATCHITOCHES – Hezekiah and the Houserockers will perform at Northwestern State University Wednesday, Jan. 27 at noon in the Friedman Student Union Ballroom. Admission is free and open to the public.
The band, which brings back to life the old time blues and jazz sounds of the lower Mississippi River Valley, is led by Hezekiah Early, a 2009 inductee into Louisiana Folklife Center’s Hall of Master Folk Artists.
Early and the other members of the Houserockers began playing together in 1978. They released their first album, Since Ol’ Gabriel’s Time, in 1982. The trio blends drums, guitar and the harmonica into a unique combination, recalling the style of the early steamboat jazz and country blues bands.
This event is sponsored by the Louisiana Folklife Center and the Office of Cultural Diversity to promote international cultural awareness. The next concert in the series will take place on Feb. 24 featuring the bluegrass band Max, Marcy and Friends.
