Recital featuring faculty member Malena McLaren to be held Feb. 1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

     NATCHITOCHES - A recital featuring Northwestern State faculty member Malena McLaren will be presented Monday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

     McLaren will be joined by Francis Yang and Elena Kuroda on piano and Mario Torres on viola. 

     The program will include works by Francis Poulenc, Olivier Messiaen, Malcolm Arnold, Miguel Yuste, and Rebecca Clarke.

     McLaren is assistant professor of clarinet at NSU.  She received a bachelor’s degree in music education and master of music degree in clarinet performance at The University of New Mexico. She has also studied at the University of North Texas, where she received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance.  She has recorded with the University of New Mexico Chamber Orchestra, the University of North Texas Wind Symphony and has performed in orchestras throughout Mexico and the United Kingdom. 

     She is a member of the group Trio de Llano with fellow NSU faculty Douglas Bakenhus and Dennette McDermott which has performed throughout the U.S., in Canada, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.
