Concert to feature work of composer Eve Beglarian

NATCHITOCHES – The duo Kisatchie Sound will perform works by composer Eve Beglarian in a concert at Northwestern State University Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State and the Student Activities Board are sponsoring the concert.

Kisatchie Sound consists of NSU adjunct faculty members Matthew Petty on trombone and David Steele on clarinet. They will be joined by Northwestern State faculty Paul Christopher on cello, Galindo Rodriguez on trumpet, Elena Bogaczova on piano, D’Nissa Hester on vocals and graduate student Kelsey Wright on flute.

Beglarian is an American composer based in New York City and Vermont. A graduate of Princeton and Columbia, Beglarian has gained a reputation as a unique composer of contemporary music. Beglarian was trained in serial techniques by Wuorinen and Lerdahl, and later began incorporating rock elements and performance art into her work. Beglarian's compositional output is diverse and includes electro-acoustic music, chamber works, solo pieces, as well as music for symphony and theater. Her music is often described as post-minimal.
The concert will feature contemporary music for chamber ensemble, electronics, video and spoken word. Beglarian will provide commentary for each piece and be narrator for the concert.
