E Lab grows with Victory Gardens

Students at Northwestern State University Elementary Lab School studied Victory Gardens throughout the 2016-17 school year and learned about their importance in the history of the United States in lessons that combined elements of history, science, reading and following directions using library tools and other resources to learn how food is grown. In addition to cultivating a school garden, students in kindergarten through fifth grade were challenged to plan and create their own gardens of any size at home and track its development in an ungraded contest coordinated by School Librarian Lisa Wiggins. State Farm Agent Ron Brown supported the project by donating prizes for winners.
