NSU police part of "Click It or Ticket" campaign

NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State University Police Department is participating in the "Click It or Ticket" program with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to encourage seatbelt use beginning May 22.

According to Det. Cary Hargrove of the University Police Department, Natchitoches Parish ranks in the top 25 parishes in total fatal and injury crashes.

“Each year, many people are injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana. Impaired driving and failure to use seatbelts are the two leading causes of injury and/or fatality crashes across the state,” said Hargrove.

In an effort to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities, the NSU Police Department will join many other agencies across the state in participating in the "Click It or Ticket" campaign May 22 – June 4.

NSU police will use a combination of checkpoints and saturation patrols to identify and apprehend those drivers and/or passengers that are not properly restrained.

“The members of the Northwestern State University Police Department want everyone to be safe by buckling up before driving,” said Hargrove.
