NATCHITOCHES – Michael Yankowski, professor of art at Northwestern State University, will exhibit a new work at the Carol Robinson Gallery in New Orleans March 7-31. Selected gallery artists participating in the “Artists of Faith” exhibit will present work inspired by their faith in an annual Lenten exhibition organized for the past eight years. Yankowski, a Catholic, has participated in the exhibit since its inception and has been the featured artist twice. All four of his works are new and have never been displayed to the public.

Yankowski will display four new wood and mixed media sculptures. One sculpture is titled “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi” (Thus Passes the Glory of the World). The artwork is a walnut and bass wood fabrication resembling a religious reliquary. It contains a hand carved heron skull, feather and eggs in a nest.

“Incorporating glass, brass, acrylic and oil paint, it evokes concepts of death, eternity and our fleeting temporal life,” Yankowski explained.

The exhibit will open with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Carol Robinson Gallery, 840 Napoleon Avenue at Magazine in New Orleans. For more information, visit or
